The Consumer Education for Kids Program is designed to equip young learners with the necessary knowledge and skills to become informed consumers. By understanding the basics of money management, shopping wisely, and their rights and responsibilities as consumers, children can develop good financial habits that will benefit them throughout their lives.

Prior to formal consumer education programs, children primarily learned about spending and saving through experience and parental guidance. However, with the increasing complexity of modern consumerism, structured education has become essential.

In 2022, the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis introduced a nationwide initiative to incorporate consumer education into school curriculums. This initiative aims to provide students with practical knowledge on budgeting, saving, and making informed purchasing decisions.

The program covers key areas such as:

• Understanding Money – Learning the value of money and how it is earned.
• Budgeting Basics – Teaching children to plan their expenses and save for the future.
• Smart Shopping – Recognizing quality, comparing prices, and understanding advertisements.
• Consumer Rights & Responsibilities – Awareness of fair trade practices and consumer protection laws.
